Registered Black Belt

Here is a summary of the two options to become a registered Lean Six Sigma Black Belt:

1. Real project + VIVA exam:

You lead an actual Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project in your organization that generates a minimum savings of HK$500k annually
You prepare a project report and presentation deck
You participate in a 60 minute VIVA exam with 2 examiners, presenting and defending your project
Upon passing the VIVA exam, you become a registered Black Belt with Six Sigma Institute for 1 year

Pros:

– You gain real hands-on experience leading an impactful project
– You develop Black Belt skills by implementing the DMAIC methodology in a real-world setting

Cons:

– May be difficult to get approval and support for a Black Belt project in your organization
– Takes time ( 6 months to 1 year) to complete an actual Black Belt project

2. Black Belt Simulation Project Course:

– You participate in a structured course that simulates a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project
– You work in a team to apply DMAIC methodology to an assigned case study
– You prepare a project report and presentation deck
– You participate in the VIVA exam at the end of the course
– Upon passing the exam, you become a registered Black Belt for 1 year

Pros:

– Structured, guided learning experience in a shorter time frame (e.g. 6 – 12 weeks)
– No need to get project approval from your organization

Cons:

– Not a real project in your actual work environment
– May lack some of the challenges of a real Black Belt project
